The sun may be setting for good for the well-known MTV reality series Siesta Key.
According to TMZ, the show will not be returning for a sixth season 'anytime soon' and it is unclear if it will even be coming back at all.
The channel has yet to officially cancel it but it's believed to be in peril due to all-time low ratings last season.
It comes over a year after Siesta Key cast member Amanda Miller shared a suspicious Instagram post about her time on the show.
According to TMZ, Season 6 of Siesta Key will not begin filming 'anytime soon' but the show has not officially been canceled by MTV
The show experienced all-time low ratings in Season 5 prior to its season finale in 2023. Show stars and social media noticed the significant drop

'For the last 5 years these people (& a few more) have become more than friends, they're my family,' she wrote in the description.
'It's been an honor doing this show with them by my side and the memories we've all made together are unforgettable & I will be carrying them with me forever.'
Siesta Key was inspired by the popular MTV series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which aired on the network in the mid 2000s.
It premiered in July 2017 and centered around eight Florida residents, including Juliette Porter, Brandon Gomes, and Madisson Hausburg.
Its first four seasons were filmed in Sarasota before production moved to Miami.
Siesta Key first premiered in July 2017 and it was created by MTV through inspiration from Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County
Cast members had come and gone by Season 5, Porter, Gomes, and Hausburg were the only three originals that were on the show.
Other Siesta Key stars who participated in Season 5 were Miller, Sam Logan, and Jordana Barnes.
Siesta Key may have been a popular MTV reality series but it wasn't the media were interested in watching be filmed.
Communications and public relations coordinator for Visit Sarasota County Nate Sweetman told Sarasota Magazine that the media is 'typically not interested in covering that or what some of the cast may be doing while here.'
Alex Kompothecras was surrounded by controversies during his time on the show and was eventually fired by MTV in 2020 due to racist tweets he made years prior
Siesta Key did hit a snag due to the many controversies surrounding ex-cast member Alex Kompothecras.
Kompothecras' father was one of the show's executive-producers during that time.
Animal rights activists began protesting the stars presence on the show after he was involved in an incident with a group of friends that dragged a live shark behind a boat.
The controversial cast member was later fired by MTV after he made more than one racist social media remark.
He also got caught commenting on a post that called former President Barack Obama the N-word.
'We've made the decision to cut ties with Alex and are editing the current season to minimize his presence. He will not be in future seasons of Siesta Key,' MTV wrote in a statement.
Kompothecras and other cast members are beginning to create families outside of the show, including Hausburg, who welcomed a daughter with her husband Ismael 'Ish' Soto earlier this year.
Despite the suspicious reaction from Miller before the Season 5 finale, social media users have a more mixed reaction about the show's status.
Various cast members have begun to have children off the camera. Garrett Miller has not had children yet, but he did get married two months after the Season 5 finale aired
Social media has had mixed reactions about the show. Reddit users have hated on the show while a few on Instagram have requested that the show come back
Reddit users first started dissing Siesta Key in 2022 after someone posted a photo of some of the show's low ratings on the social media platform.
'The whole ridiculousness thing drives me nuts. Who told MTV people actually like that show? I just don't get it,' another Reddit user commented on the post.
Instagram users were more positive in 2023 and a few of them wrote in Miller's 2023 photo that they love the show.
However, one person commented in the Instagram post that because of Season 5 finale's ending, they 'can't imagine it getting renewed.'
Most of the positive comments made over the past two weeks were made on the show's last Instagram post that they created in January 2023.
'I THINK WE NEED ANOTHER SEASON OF because everybody growing and glowing we need that televised asap!!!!,' one user wrote.
Others suggested that the show return for a season that instead focusses on the cast members updated love and family lives.
